What to see in Reims
The first thing to do when enjoying a holiday in Reims is to visit the historic city centre. Because of its strategic location, the city has been the object of many battles and other often destructive historical events during the wars that have traversed north-eastern France, which is why the architecture of the city centre is made up of many bourgeois buildings characteristic of the post-First World War reconstructions. But it is also this rich history that has led to the city being classified as a "Ville d'Art et d'Histoire" (City of Art and History): the most illustrious of these witnesses to time is certainly the Notre-Dame de Reims Cathedral, which has seen most of the kings of France crowned in it! A few minutes from our hotel in the east of Reims, you will also find the Basilica of Saint-Rémi, which was built more than a thousand years ago!
Activities nearby
Apart from sightseeing, what can you do in Reims when you stay at the Brit Hotel Reims Croix Blandin? Reims is the capital of Champagne, a famous alcoholic beverage recognised throughout the world. As such, you MUST visit at least one Champagne cellar in Reims and enjoy a tasting. The closest is the famous Ruinart cellar, but Domaine Vranken Pommery, Cave Taittinger or Champagne Veuve Clicquot are not far away!
And if you stay in Reims at the right time, you may be able to attend one of the many cultural events that enliven the city throughout the year. In June, for example, the Johannine Festivals of Reims adorn the city in medieval finery in homage to Jeanne d'Arc and the Coronation of Charles VII in 1429: concerts, medieval shows and arts and crafts mingle to recall the history of the City of the Sacraments!
